Booty Gong has been released!!

January 23rd, 2009

With a great idea and design from JD Jordan (http://www.cloudjammer.com), we have released Booty Gong!!  What is the Booty Gong?  The idea is simple.  It’s a quick and easy way to let your friends know what you’ve been up to without actually saying it.  From the description:

Have you ever had to let a friend know what you’ve been up to, but had to do it quickly and discretely?

Now you can with “Booty Gong”!

Back in the days of Pirates, people were fascinated with finding Pirate treasure, also known as “Booty”.

It was so prevalent, in fact, that when search parties had to let other members of their group know when they found some “Booty”, they had to do it in such a way that wouldn’t cause too much attention.  One of the most common forms of this communication was the gong, commonly referred to as the “Booty Gong!”

Nowadays, finding Pirate Treasure isn’t so prevalent, but every once in a while, we need to let our friends know what we’ve been up to and “Booty Gong!” lets you do just that.

Simply press the “Ring the Gong!” button and select whether to ring your own Gong or to notify a friend. Choose your friend’s mobile number and a text message will be sent to them notifying them of your experience.

We have big plans for Booty Gong and new features are in the works so stay tuned!!!

Wooo! Button on the Rise and New Version Coming Soon

January 10th, 2009

So, I’m not sure what’s happening, but ever since Christmas, my Wooo! Button has been on a roll.

Before Christmas, I was averaging about 300-500 downloads per day.  I was very happy about this and I felt it was doing very well.  Just before Christmas, however, the downloads jumped up to about 1000-1200 per day.  I wasn’t sure why, but I felt it had something to do with the Christmas season.  Christmas Day, after everyone started activating their new iPhones, as expected, I got a lot of downloads, but a lot more than expected…over 6000.  I thought downloads after that day would still be high, but trail off significantly afterwards, well, they did go down to about 4000 per day, but that didn’t last long.  For some reason, I have been seeing a consistent rise in downloads…approaching Christmas Day sales as of this post.  I expect them to exceed Christmas Day sales soon too.

I see this happening for a few reasons, the first being word of mouth.  If you read the reviews, you’ll no doubt realize that people either love the Wooo! Button or hate it.  They either give it 1 star and say it’s stupid, or give it 5 stars and say it’s the best thing in the world.  I definitely attribute that to a person’s sense of humor and what they think is funny.  I, of course, fall into the 5 star group of people which is why I wrote the app in the first place.  I easily get tired of computer sound effects, but this one never got old…even after 20 years of having this sound in my library.

Another reason, but not possible without word of mouth, is App Store position.  Because of the downloads, my Wooo! Button has just got back into the top 50 Free Entertainment Apps; 27 as of this writing, in fact.  If something is in the top 50, you immediately get a lot more visibility in the App Store.

Lastly, I have submitted version 2.0, which improves the Wooo! Button in areas that make it worthy of the iPhone and iPod Touch.  Thanks to an amazing designer, JD Jordan (http://www.cloudjammer.com), who has done wonders with the look of the Wooo! Button and should propel downloads back into the 5 digits per day.  I really think, and hope so.

I am really excited about this, not only because of the popularity of something of mine on the App Store, but it shows the success of the App Store and the high traffic it is getting.  It really excited me.

Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys the Wooo! Button and especially 2.0 when it gets released.  I am now working on updating my other applications and coming out with some cool new stuff over the next year.  Stay tuned!!!

iPhone App Store Ratings Confuse Me

December 29th, 2008

OK…the iPhone App Store rating system confuses the hell out of me.  First of all, one my apps shows almost 2000 reviews, but when I go to look at them, all I see are 186.  WTF?!?!?!  Also, in order to even see that many, I have to sort by “Most Recent”.  Also, one my apps show that I have 9 reviews with an average rating of 3.5 stars.  When I look at the ratings…first of all, I can only see 5 and all of them are 4 and 5 stars, no matter how I sort them, so my rating should be 4.5 stars, correct?  I obviously can’t see the 3 and lower reviews, but I must have them or else my rating wouldn’t be 3.5 stars.  UGH!!!!!

Just venting.  Thanks!

Updates coming soon

December 28th, 2008

I have some big updates for all apps coming soon.  I have been battling with time and am trying to focus as much toward my apps as possible.  Darn life getting in the way of stuff!!

Separate Checks - My Third iPhone App!

October 12th, 2008

My third, and admittedly more useful, iPhone app has been released!!  It’s called Separate Checks. You can get it here.

There are a lot of tip calculators out there.  There have been numerous articles about them.  Some about there being too many, some about how they take little programming knowledge to create. I wholeheartedly agree with these articles.

So what’s different about Separate Checks? Read the rest of this entry »

I’m in Fortune Magazine!

September 24th, 2008

OK, so the Wooo Button and Disco Ball made it into Fortune Magazine.  Not sure how that happened, but how awesome is that!?!?!?!  Anyway, I’m almost finished with my next app and, as promised, it will be actually somewhat useful. I hope to have it finished within the week.  I’ll keep you posted.  Oh, here is the link to the Fortune Magazine article.  Thanks Paul!

iPhone 3G Coverage - Look at the Map people!

August 28th, 2008

So, I’m not sure if there’s an issue with Apple’s iPhone 3G reception or not, but if you look at the AT&T coverage map for 3G vs. Edge, it’s CRAP!!  There’s hardly any full coverage areas, and if you’re in the car, forget it!  You’re gonna be in and out of coverage so often, you won’t be able to keep a signal for very long so get ready to drop that call.  So, IMHO (that’s the first time I’ve ever written IMHO), the problem here lies with AT&T and THEY need to step it up.

Another iPhone App

August 1st, 2008

Apple has posted another of my iPhone Apps.  It’s called the Wooo Button!  All it pretty much does is yell “Wooo!” and is a sound that a lot of people I know and I can’t get enough of.  Of course, as with anything, some will love it and some will hate it.  It is, of course, free as it will never get updated again, unlike my Disco Ball app which be getting several updates and improvements.  Anyway, on to my next App, which should be quite a bit more useful!

Disco Ball - My First Official iPhone App!

July 29th, 2008

Well, it’s official…my first iPhone Application has been approved and posted to the iTunes AppStore!  It’s called “Disco Ball”.  It’s a simple app right now, but I have some more touch features on the way and an original audio track.  If you have any problems with it, PLEASE let me know.  If you download it and like it, please leave a positive review.  I would appreciate it.  Check it out!!

Plaxo is awesome!

July 25th, 2008

Here is the scenario…I put a new contact into my computer this morning.  All I had was the person’s first name and email address.  I did not know the person’s last name and I thought this could pose a problem in the future, but it wasn’t THAT big of a deal.  So, back to the story…I put the first name and email into my address book and didn’t think much of it after that.  I also use MobileMe (the old Mac.com) and was looking at the phone to see if the “pushed” data was working.  I expected to see the name and email in my phone as I had entered it.  This was not the case.  What I found was the person’s full name, title, company and email address…all the information I needed.  I was briefly amazed, and then quickly surmised what had happened.  I also have Plaxo installed on my Mac.  What had happened was that I entered the information into my computer.  Plaxo immediately synced my address book with my online address book on Plaxo, recognized the email address I had for that person and checked its database for any matches.  It noticed that it had a match and then automatically updated my address book on my computer.  Being that I have MobileMe contact info pushed directly to my phone, the updated information was also placed on my phone.  Amazing!!  Plaxo is awesome!
