Separate Checks - My Third iPhone App!
My third, and admittedly more useful, iPhone app has been released!! It’s called Separate Checks. You can get it here.
There are a lot of tip calculators out there. There have been numerous articles about them. Some about there being too many, some about how they take little programming knowledge to create. I wholeheartedly agree with these articles.
So what’s different about Separate Checks?Well, to start, it’s not a tip calculator, although it can do that too. As the name may give away, Separate Checks was built as a check separator. It separates the bill to show exactly what people owe as opposed to simply just splitting the check evenly between the number of people you have or just calculating 20% of your bill. Apple gives you that for free on all iPhones…it’s called “Calculator”.
How many times have you been out to dinner with a group of people and the bill comes in one long list. It takes forever to decide who owes what and you are almost always left with too little and someone gets screwed, and it’s almost always the person handling the check. Well, no more!!
With Separate Checks, you enter the number of people you have, the tax amount (which is calculated based on the amount you owe as well), and the desired tip amount. Once these are entered, you enter the items from your check one by one, setting the total cost and then choosing which people ordered that item. If they had more than one of that item, just tap to increase the amount that they ordered. It’s that simple!! I really think this will become a valuable tool for most people and I want to keep improving it for you. If you have any question or there are any bugs that you find or any features you’d like to have, please don’t hesitate to email me. I hope you enjoy it!!
Separate Checks Tips:
If only one item was ordered but 2 or more people shared that item, choose the people that shared that item and Separate Checks will split it properly.
If a line item has a quantity of more than one, but only 1 person ordered that item, you only have to choose that person once. Separate Checks will treat that as one item costing the total amount. Not necessary, but saves a little time.
If there is someone who everyone is chipping in for, like someone having a birthday, enter their items but don’t include them in the number of people. When choosing who had that item, select everyone as having that item. Their portions will be split appropriately.
